The county’s Get Involved page lists several emergency volunteer programs. CERT teaches basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue and first aid. A communications program is aimed at licensed amateur radio operators and others interested in emergency communications; its volunteers help connect responders by radio and other means when normal systems are down. Other programs include a Medical Reserve Corps and general emergency management volunteering.
The county says this website is still under construction and points to its older site for official information, so contact Emergency Management to confirm current openings.
Volunteers serve through the program, not on their own: register as an emergency worker through the sponsoring agency before you help in an emergency.
