Island County’s CERT program teaches volunteers about local hazards and basic disaster response skills. The course has eight units and a review, ending with a disaster simulation. The schedule depends on the instructor and may run as weekly classes or as three full days. New volunteers register through the county’s online application.

Island County RACES trains CERT members in radio communications.

Volunteers serve through the program, not on their own: register as an emergency worker through the sponsoring agency before you help in an emergency.

Before you rely on any group: contact them, join a practice net or drill, and keep calling 911 first whenever you can.
