Jefferson County Library runs a monthly series on disaster and emergency preparedness, covering winter storms, earthquakes and wildfires. Recordings go on the library’s Emergency Preparedness Talks playlist.

One session, “Communication in a Disaster,” brought in the county’s Department of Emergency Management, JeffCom 911 and the county’s volunteer emergency communicators. It covered making a family communication plan and finding reliable information during emergencies. Registration is required for live sessions.

Before you rely on any group: contact them, join a practice net or drill, and keep calling 911 first whenever you can.
