KARS works with Kitsap County’s Department of Emergency Management (KCDEM), which has staged radio equipment throughout the county. Volunteers register with KCDEM as emergency workers before an event, choose a level of participation and train ahead of time. KARS takes part in exercises such as Cascadia Rising and in quarterly exercises run by Washington Emergency Management.

KCDEM asks volunteers to put personal and family safety first before accepting a mission.

Volunteers serve through the program, not on their own: register as an emergency worker through the sponsoring agency before you help in an emergency.

Before you rely on any group: contact them, join a practice net or drill, and keep calling 911 first whenever you can.
