The Kittitas County Amateur Radio Club meets in Ellensburg. Its site has pages on volunteer exam sessions, new hams, weather spotting, nets, auxiliary communications (AUXCOMM) and a mentoring page. It also posts upcoming operating events such as Field Day and Winter Field Day.
Ham radio clubs are a good place to get licensed and learn before joining an emergency group.
