Mason County’s CERT page describes what trained members do after a disaster. They size up their homes or workplaces and reduce immediate dangers, for example by shutting off utilities and putting out small fires. They treat people nearby, set up command, staging and triage areas with other volunteers, and keep in touch with responders.
The county’s volunteer page also lists an EOC volunteer role, a Mason County Communications Unit and Search and Rescue.
Volunteers serve through the program, not on their own: register as an emergency worker through the sponsoring agency before you help in an emergency.
