Vashon ACS supports other island emergency groups, such as CERT, with radio communications. It trains volunteers on radio equipment, keeps caches of radios and gear, provides net control for radio teams and runs relays between groups. It can also send email over radio when the internet is down. Training sessions are run jointly with the island’s ARES group and announced on the radio club’s email list.

The island’s MeshCore group, VashonMesh, grew out of this team.

Volunteers serve through the program, not on their own: register as an emergency worker through the sponsoring agency before you help in an emergency.

Before you rely on any group: contact them, join a practice net or drill, and keep calling 911 first whenever you can.
