A NERO is an informal group of neighboring households that prepare together and support each other until an emergency passes. Members share skills and supplies, check on neighbors and report injuries, damage and road or utility problems to responders. VashonBePrepared says more than 270 NERO groups are organized on the island, and a coordinator helps new groups get started.

To start one, talk with a few neighbors, contact the program through its page, and book a short presentation. Individual groups and their members are not listed here.

NERO groups do not replace emergency services. Call 911 for urgent help.

Prepare your neighborhood

Before you rely on any group: contact them, join a practice net or drill, and keep calling 911 first whenever you can.
