Walla Walla University brought CERT to the valley through its Center for Humanitarian Engagement. Annual CERT courses are free and open to people aged 13 and over, with supplies provided. The team also runs first aid and CPR training, drills such as a Disaster Airlift Response Team exercise, and unannounced mobilization exercises.

New members are encouraged to attend team meetings before getting certified. Certification is required before you can be activated with the local team.

Volunteers serve through the program, not on their own: register as an emergency worker through the sponsoring agency before you help in an emergency.

Before you rely on any group: contact them, join a practice net or drill, and keep calling 911 first whenever you can.
